Born and raised in New York City, Joana Avillez holds a BFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and earned an MFA in the Illustration as Visual Essay Program at The School of Visual Arts.
Joana illustrated Lena Dunham’s book, Not That Kind of Girl, and is the author of Life Dressing and D-C-T (in collaboration with Molly Young). She has also illustrated an upcoming edition of Joseph Mitchell’s classic love letter to NY, The Bottom of the Harbor.
